Release Date This series was released May 17th of 2004, it is Topps' first dabble in Wackys since 1991. Stickers The 1st series consists of: 55 stickers in the base set Two bonus stickers 9 static clings 10 tattoos Three titles were pre-released as promo cards. Three titles were pre-released on a promo sheet. The Backs The backs of the stickers are either checklists, pieces of three different nine piece puzzles, or one of 20 gag coupons. There are no back variations in this series. The Real Products The real products (with side-by-side comparisons) Packs and Wrappers There are four different packs/wrappers. Packs have six stickers. There are also four different blister packs. Boxes There are six different boxes consisting of two types: Regular boxes with 24 packs and Bonus boxes with 11 packs and one bonus sticker. The shipping cases The 16 box case for stadard boxes with unpriced packs. The 16 box case for stadard boxes with priced packs. The 8 box case for hobby boxes. The a 16 box shipping case for Wal Mart bonus boxes. The 16 box shipping case for Target bonus boxes. The Uncut Sheet The uncut sheet has 110 stickers, exactly two of each title (so there are no short-prints). Online Topps has made a special web page for Wackys where you can: Play some wacky pack games Find a store near you that sells them download some nifty 3D fold-up Wackys Availability They were not sold in too many mom and pop convenience stores like they were in the 70's. But they were sold in many larger stores, in particular Wal Mart and Target carried them. And what we can do now that we couldn't do in the 70's is buy them online. Press and Media Appearances There have been several stories in the media about the new Wackys. Promos There are 14 promotional items related to the new Wackys. Original Art. The majority of the new titles have been conceived by artist Jay Lynch who has been doing Wackys since the 60's. Pictures of the roughs he drew for this series. They were painted by John Pound, Zina Saunders, Tom Bunk, Strephon Taylor, David Gross and the Glover brothers (Sean and Patrick). List of who painted what Topps has been selling the 2004 original art on ebay. Topps had Jay Lyncy draw roughs for a proposed sticker album, but it was never released. In addition a number of unused titles from the planned but never released 1992 2nd series were used in this series. Most of these were painted by John Pound. There are two titles that were painted for the 1991/92 series but were not used and then were planned for the 2004 but were again not used, Gooya and Plop on Pop. Gooya was intended to be one of the bonus stickers, but was pulled at the last minute for some unknown reason, Plop on Pop appears on the back of one of the 2004 promo flyers, and on preliminary checklist where it was called "Dr. Flush".
