Wacky Packages Vintage Checklist Short Prints
Short Prints: For the checklists with puzzle backs, the uncut sheet does not fit an even number of puzzles.
- In fact the sheet has 12 full puzzles and four partials. As a result the bottom row of horizontal puzzles, or the right side of verticals, were slightly short-printed.
- One wouldn't think such a small difference could matter, but here 30 years later after so many full puzzles have been assembled, what is left over for each puzzle is mainly the six common pieces. In other words, the pool of unassembled pieces is sparse for the short prints, and getting sparser every year.
- Sometimes this causes those tougher pieces go for a very high premium over the others. For the really tough 16th series this has had a major effect, a piece 3, 6, or 9 can go for upwards of $100.
- For horizontally oriented puzzles the the short-prints are always the bottom row (pieces 7, 8, 9 in standard terminology), for vertically oriented puzzles it is always the right side (pieces 3, 6, and 9 in standard terminology).
