The following is what Jay Lynch (one of the original Wacky Packages artists) has to say about this title: "When Kurtzman started Mad comics in 1952, the names Melvin and Irving are used in the stories a lot. These were just considered funny names By Kurtzman. A little later Jerry Lewis started using these names in his tv performances with Dean Martin. Spiegelman and I cut our teeth on Kurtzman humor...and in the zines we did when we were kids, the characters are often named Melvin or Irving. Woody Gelman and Len Brown were also into Kurtzman's humor...so 'Irving' soap was actually a gag that was intended to be used. In those days, the names Melvin and/or Irving were comedy names. Also the phraise (another one that harkens to Kurtzman) 'How's your mom, Ed?'. This was a kind of early 50s hip talk. Kind of like when Sinatra (in the 60s) would call his colleagues 'Charlie'. Does this make sense? Jay"
